Baby Shower - January 2024
San Clemente Military Family Outreach loves our Mom’s (and Dad’s)-To-Be! BUT, before we can shower them with our love (and help them to get started as young parents with some necessities) there was a lot of advanced planning and preparation our event chair – Judy Franz – spearheads and coordinates with our beloved community of volunteers.
The giving started at the Mary's Feast Celebration in early December when guests brought baby gifts and gift cards. Meanwhile, the community collected hundreds of items (large and small) through Christmas Giving Trees or Wish Lists. Area churches included St. Andrew’s By the Sea (SABTS), St Clement's Episcopal, Our Savior's Lutheran, Our Lady of Fatima (Young Ladies Institute), Christ Lutheran and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. And, our friends from the Reata Glen retirement community, The American Legion Auxiliary Newport Harbor Post 291 and the San Juan Capistrano American Legion Post 721 donated a wide range of goodies!
The Layette Assembly
Fifteen volunteers gathered on a beautiful day prior to the event and assembled beautiful layettes - which are quilt-wrapped items for babies. Special thanks to the Surfside Quilters Guild for making 50 of these the beautiful quilts!
Early morning before the event, volunteers arrive to prepare for the expectant Military Moms. We were truly blessed with a sunny, clear day for the outdoor event - and baby gifts galore - from pacifiers to Pack-n-Plays, thanks to the generosity of many churches, organizations, and caring individuals.
The Main Event – the Shower
SCMFO's Annual Baby Shower for expectant military moms was held drive-in style on Saturday, Jan, 28, at the SCMFO office location - in the SABTS parking lot. In attendance were 47 moms (and many daddies, plus "big" brothers and sisters) and 25 volunteers! Pastor Karl from SABTS blessed the layettes, and Pastor Juli from Christ Lutheran blessed the babies and families. Hoag Hospital delivered formula and diapers that went to each mom, along with diapers and wipes provided with the layettes.
Here's what a few of the 47 families "showered" that day had to say:
From the bottom of our hearts, SCMFO thanks everyone in our community for continuing to
support this very special event!
